Q. Where do I dispose of hazardous waste from my
home?
A. Refer to the Recycling Hotline (604-732-9253

Waste Oil (up to 20 litres) can be disposed of at any location
that sells motor oil (gas stations, Canadian Tire, mechanics,
etc.)
Q. Where do I dispose of commercial levels of
hazardous waste?
A. Permitted Hazardous Waste Management facilities
can accept commercial quantities of hazardous waste. Here are
a few companies you can suggest, otherwise they can look in

Q. What do I do with a broken thermometer or
thermostat that contains mercury?
A. When mercury is spilt, Environment Canada recommends that you contact your local Poison Control Centre and suggests clean up instructions for small mercury spills on the following web page:
http://www.ec.gc.ca/MERCURY/EN/cu.cfm. For disposal options, contact your regional district / municipality or local hazardous waste management company.
Q. Are fluorescent light tubes hazardous waste?
A. They can be hazardous waste if they contain sufficient mercury to result in an exceedance of hazardous waste characterization standards. Manufacturers should be able to provide information on mercury content of tubes that would assist in such characterization. In addition, an environmental analytical laboratory or hazardous waste management consultant or service contractor may also provide characterization assistance. If you don’t know, it may be prudent to assume that tubes are hazardous waste and to manage them accordingly. Contact the Recycling Council of British Columbia (http://www.rcbc.bc.ca) (1-800-667-4321 or 604-732-9253 in the Lower Mainland) for recycling options — a number of retailers in British Columbia are offering fluorescent light bulb recycling programs.

hazardous waste?
A. Manifests are still required as outlined
in section 46 of the Hazardous Waste Regulation.
Q. How do I purchase hazardous waste manifests,
